2002 Hunter Clinic Recap
Our
10th Annual Hunter's Clinics were once again a success! Three Clinics were held this year in Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff, on successive nights in August, the 13th, 14th, and 15th
respectively. We had 175 total attendees at the Clinics, broken down as follows...38 in Tucson, 97 in Phoenix, and 40 in Flagstaff. This number is comparable to the 183 attendees in 2001 at
the Flagstaff and Phoenix Clinics. We were pleased with this turnout, particularly in view of the decrease in antelope hunt permits compared to last year.
Our 9/17/02 Treasurer’s report itemizes and compares the past two years Clinic's income and expenses and the numbers are very
similar. The net income difference was $659.36 less this year, compared to last. The primary reason for the drop related to fewer raffle items, as we spent $800.05 more in 2001 compared to
2002 to make that money. This presents us with an opportunity for future clinics if we’re more aggressive in our raffle donation planning and collecting! Since we handled the prior year’s
rifle raffle differently, we had no comparison to the $465 in sales generated this year with the rifle.
We did have some significant savings from the Phoenix Clinic, as we shifted the location this year to the Phoenix FOP Lodge, saving
$816.74. The $432.11 in total site cost savings occurred even after our expansion from two clinics to three. The three locations cost $100 in Tucson (no A/C!), $500 in Phoenix, and $284.63 in
Flagstaff. The Tucson Clinic was also held at the FOP Lodge, and the Flagstaff Clinic was held at the Elks Lodge.
Combined Clinic registrants and memberships were comparable from this year
to last. In 2002 we took in $690 for registrants, and $1845 for memberships. In 2001, the registrant income was $770, and the membership income was $1960.
Clinic agendas
and format mirrored our prior year's programs, and included discussions of pronghorn life history, behavior, optics, hunting tactics, and judging & scoring. Presentations were made by
various experts depending on the location, but the format and message were the same. Similar handouts and reference material were also distributed at each location.
Kudos to our various presenters, experts and Game & Fish personnel who made the presentations a success!
